The Martian Language of CGI

Jargon can be a saint or sinner. The jargon saint allows precision of meaning and rapid understanding of complex concepts amongst the brethren. The sinner obfuscates meaning and renders insights incomprehensible to the non-initiate. Take this video, for instance. It was apparently presented at a some sort of computer graphics conference, so the original audience was probably hip to the lingo that starts flying about half-way through. To me, I wasn't sure if it was all just a hilarious inside joke. (But the upfront part about how they designed the character silhouettes and clothing to make each type of character differentiated at a glance is amazing, as is the subtle terrain shapes and shading to provide hints at to whether you're in "blue" territory or "red."
